The poet that composed “sans papiers”, Le Thi Diem Thuy, wrote the poem about immigration. However, I interpreted the poem not only about immigration but also about coming of age. Similar to how immigrants’ lives change from black to white, many people’s lives also change colors. Some change from black to white, similar to immigrants. Some start from blue (sadness) to green (prosperity). Everyone’s lives are constantly changing. Not only immigrants’ lives are changing, but also our own lives as well. Our lives is like a pool of water flowing into the future, constantly changing shape and color.
